  • A selfie and a copy of your most recent ID e.g., passport or driving licence (advised by the fraud expert)
  • Details of how you became aware of the finance agreement.
  • If you believe you have been part of a Scam gather all evidence e.g., screenshots of all conversations with the scammer including contact details for the scammer.

Reporting to the police

In certain circumstances you will be asked to report directly to your local police force. If this is required, our fraud experts will advise you.

Latest scams

Scammers are quick to adapt – and we’re constantly uncovering new scams.

Courier scams

Did you receive a parcel addressed to you that you were not expecting?

Fraudsters may have successfully applied for a finance product using your details. The goods are then shipped directly to the victim’s property with the aim for the fraudster to obtain the goods. The fraudster will pose as a courier and advise the parcel/s were delivered in error and require you to hand the parcel over.

Mystery shopper

Fraudsters will usually approach you via social media channels e.g., snapchat, Whatsapp etc. The fraudster may ask you to apply for a finance product whilst in store. If you are approved, the goods will be in your possession and the fraudster will ask you to hand over/ship the goods to them under the pretence you will be fully refunded and/or make a financial gain through participating.

Job applications

Fraudsters are using fake job adverts & sites to harvest customer information. Victims are applying for what they think is a genuine job and in doing so have given away their personal information, including copies of Identification to the fraudster. Fraudsters are then using this information to apply for credit in the victim’s name. The victim is then asked to complete an online Identification check, supposedly for the purposes of a job application, or expression of interest in a role. Barclays does not use identity verification services for anything other than finance applications, and victims are being tricked fraudsters into verifying their identity for a loan application.

Sometimes, fraudsters will pose as recruiters and may come to your door asking victims to take a selfie and photograph your identity documents. This is not a normal job application process.
